“Follow your heart” is advice many of us have heard and even given. Sounds like pretty good advice especially when watching a Hallmark movie. The lovers are always conflicted usually between a high paced career or a slower paced life that promises the fulfillment of love.

It’s often a no brainer and we sit on our comfy sofas telling them to “follow your heart.” It warms the cockles of our hearts as true love is finally found and they live happily ever after. Real life is not quite as simple. We often get into real trouble when we follow our hearts. There are plenty of broken hearts, lives, and marriages because someone followed their heart.

If we can’t even trust our own hearts then who can we trust? The answer is found in the next verse of Jeremiah 17:10. It tells us that the Lord searches all hearts and examines secret motives. He is the only One we can trust to steer and guide us to making right decisions even when our hearts would tell us otherwise.

Don’t follow you heart, but rather follow Jesus daily through bible devotions, prayer, and worship. He is trustworthy and wants the very best for you. If our hearts were truly as trustworthy as we think they are we wouldn’t have needed a Savior.
